This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the pursuit of sustainable yachting solutions.
Yachting Ventures, the global hub for startups and scaleups in the leisure marine industry, is excited to announce its sponsorship of the Riviera Racing Team from the University of Cambridge as they embark upon the prestigious Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024.
About the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge
The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge is a globally recognised competition that brings together yachting visionaries and engineering students to showcase their zero-emission innovations. Hosted by the esteemed Yacht Club de Monaco, the event has become the epicentre for groundbreaking ideas in alternative energy sources for yachting. Since its inception in 2014, the challenge has grown in popularity, fostering crucial conversations on the sustainability of the marine leisure industry. Last year, the competition saw the participation of 46 teams representing 25 nationalities, all pushing the boundaries of innovation on the water.
Key industry leaders such as Oceanco, Ferretti, Sanlorenzo, Lürssen, Monaco Marine, and Palumbo SY Refit have consistently supported the event. Additional backing from Credit Suisse, BMW, and SBM Offshore has further solidified the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge's position as a highlight in the maritime calendar.
The Riviera Racing Team
Formed in January with the ambitious goal of creating a hydrogen-fueled boat, the Riviera Racing Team from the University of Cambridge has dedicated the past 11 months to the development and testing of their innovative design. Inspired by aerofoils, the team’s catamaran aims to lift out of the water and also features integrated solar panels and a bespoke electric pod collaboratively designed with Pulling-e.
Yachting Ventures is proud to stand behind the Riviera Racing Team's commitment to advancing sustainable practices in the maritime industry. The Bronze sponsorship not only underscores Yachting Ventures' dedication to supporting cutting-edge initiatives but also highlights the company's recognition of the importance of fostering emerging talent and ideas in the yachting community.
Operations Director Harsh Sinha comments: “From when we first worked with Yachting Ventures, it has been clear that this is a team of people who strive to deliver the best possible results for their remarkable community of innovators and startups. Hot off the heels of their success with the METSTRADE Startup Pavilion, I am excited to be able to trust Yachting Ventures to help us spread the word about the work our incredible team of students and industry partners are doing on our journey to MEBC 2024”.
As the team prepares to showcase their creation on the Monaco waters, Yachting Ventures expresses enthusiasm about the potential impact this collaboration could have on the future of yachting, encouraging the industry to embrace innovation and sustainability.
Yachting Ventures Founder Gabriella Richardson added: "The student team at Riviera Racing is seriously committed to their project, and we're happy to support their entrepreneurial drive and determination to push forward positive tech developments. We'll be cheering them on and can't wait to see their solution in action."
