We sat down with Katherine Blewett, founder of BOATIQUE, to talk about the journey to date and plans for the future of the business.
How did you come up with the idea for the business?
The idea for BOATIQUE came about when I was in the middle of the Mediterranean yachting season after spending hours procuring and ordering new décor and crockery for guests. It took so much time searching across many platforms for the perfect products, that the idea to create a space to find luxurious and innovative products in one place was sparked.
Why does the industry need the solution you're providing?
Sourcing products is always difficult as items are procured from different industries and are often ordered from multiple websites, suppliers or are custom made products. Time is of the essence in this industry! Cutting down time spent on product sourcing could save valuable crew hours. There is no "one-stop-shop" for everything involved in the onboard experience. We want to connect the dots for crew and make the items they need more accessible!
What have you enjoyed most about starting your own company?
Putting creativity into practice. Being able to have an idea in your head, working hard at it and breathing life into it. I have loved watching something that started as just an idea come to life.
Any bits of advice for entrepreneurs getting started in this space?
Trust the process and be patient. Building something from the ground up takes time. A strong team is crucial - I’ve had to make a few changes to finally have my dream team.
What's the plan for the future of the business? Where do you see the company in 3-5 years?
We would like to pave the way to being an innovative and useful tool for the yachting world and the luxury industry. We were founded in a place where there is a need for this kind of marketplace. We would like to develop and grow to find the best products for this industry in the world and create a vast network of buyers and sellers that trust one another.
